"During the 1981 regular session, the House of Representatives of the Hawaii State Legislature adopted House Resolution No. 656, H.D. 1, requesting the Governor's Agriculture Coordinating Committee (GACC) to coordinate a study of Hawaii's pineapple industry (attachment 1) and to report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature prior to the convening of the 1982 regular session. The House Committee on Finance, in its report to the Speaker recommending adoption of the resolution, stated such a study was advisable because of "the overall decline of the industry in this State and the growth of, and related competition from, pineapple production in foreign countries" (Standing Committee Report No. 119, 04-24-81)" -- Introduction.
