Résumé du livre
LAS. 3/14 Essay by Brandon entitled `Remarks on masonry', (10p., ms.): English architects did not, as did the ancient Greeks, have a ready supply of large stones and they should therefore design in other, more suitable, styles; the Romans had used smaller stones than the Greeks; small stones were particularly suitable for the construction of Gothic arches and tracery; the joints should be made noticeable; the design of a building should reflect the nature of the stone used; for example, the masonry of a church built in granite should differ considerably from one built in a softer stone, read on 1 Feb 1847.
