Laura Baladi's (1969) Lebanese-Egyptian family relocated to France during the Lebanese civil war in 1975. Her editorial project is a Risograph printed work of enigmatic drawings that appropriates 1950s Egyptian educational tools of nationalistic indoctrination to reflection the language and iconography which emerge in times of protest and revolution. It is part of a broader series of artworks which stem from the ongoing project Vox Populi: Tahrir Archives, an archive of digital data pertaining to global social movements which the author has gathered and performed in various media since 2011. ABC: A Lesson in History is dedicated to the thousands of illiterates among the many Egyptian protesters who fought for freedom and democracy in Egypt's 2011 uprisings.
