I met Grant Andrews in the ER. He was the doctor. I was the patient. The circumstances were, technically, out of my hands.

He's calm, controlled, impossible to rattle. I'm a tattooed artist who's spent years keeping his life loud enough that he never has to look too closely at it.

He asked me out anyway. Like the sensible thing to do had already stopped being an option.

Falling for him isn't the problem. I've been making bad decisions my whole life. But the closer I get to Grant, the harder it is to ignore the truth: I have no idea how to keep something this good without wrecking it.

He told me once that when I felt like I was drowning, he'd be there. All I had to do was trust him.

I've been alone so long I'm not sure I know how.
