The purpose of this study was threefold: (1) to determine the amount of pressure exerted by the straps of five army packs upon the top and front of the shoulders; (2) to develop a method whereby strap pressure could be expressed in pounds per square inch; and (3) to compare the five packs in terms of unit pressure exerted on the top and front of the shoulders.
