Résumé du livre
The first in depth biography of Edward Augustus Brackett, a well known neo-classical marble sculptor, Civil War abolitionist, spiritualist, published poet, and Massachusetts' first fish and game commissioner who lived and worked in the tumultuous Boston area during the mid to late 19th century. He was deeply involved in the social, political, artistic, spiritual and scientific revolutions roiling the United States during this period. He counted among his friends and associates such important figures as William Cullen Bryant, Washington Allston, Richard Henry Dana, Jr., Wendell Phillips, William Lloyd Garrison, Edmonia Lewis, George Stearns, William James and Alfred Russel Wallace. Among his most important works are his bust of John Brown, now at Tufts University, his bust of Washington Allston, now at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and Shipwrecked Mother and Child, now in the Worcester Art Museum. He also designed his own home, an octagonal house he called The Crow's Nest, which is in the National Registry of Historic Houses.
