An Assessment of the Additional Highway Maintenance Costs Associated with Overweight Permits for Petroleum Tank Trucks Under Section 46.2-1144.1 of the Code of Virginia

This study was conducted by staff of the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC) with assistance from the Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Asset Management Division and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The objective of this study was to quantify the additional maintenance costs associated with petroleum tank wagon trucks traveling with overweight permits issued under SB 1321. Two related Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) studies quantified the additional maintenance costs associated with overweight permits for other trucks (HB 2917 and HB 1645).
