Résumé du livre

This report addresses the use of lidar as a tool for monitoring adverse weather, the intended application being the provision of on-line meteorological inputs to tactical decision aids. The principles of operation of aerosol scattering lidar are reviewed along with the recently developed multiple field of view (MFOV) technique. The report then assesses the feasibility of two distinct applications: the use of electro-optic sensors and weapons in ship defence, and remote detection of in-flight icing conditions for helicopters. The results indicate the potential of MFOV lidar to eventually become part of the sensors/weapons suite of large military platforms.
