Résumé du livre
In 1992, Atomic Energy of Canada convened a panel of external hydrogeological experts to review the agency's proposed approach to siting a geological repository in Canadian Shield rocks for the safe disposal of nuclear fuel waste. This report presents the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the panel. The report includes evaluations of the agency's research and development contributions relating to that concept, an assessment of the abundance and character of plutonic rocks in Canada, and opinions on the following: the soundness of the technical approach developed to characterize the groundwater flow systems for the purpose of selecting a location for a disposal vault; the validity and effectiveness of the geological case study used to demonstrate the performance assessment methodology; and the adequacy of the hydrogeological information that the agency proposes to use in its environmental impact statement of the concept.
