Résumé du livre

We seek to gain an understanding of the service-carrying capability of an IEEE 802.11e based ad hoc network for video streaming traffic in terms of the number of simultaneous video streams supported by the network. We find the upper bound of the video streaming capability by simulating simultaneous video streams between two nodes. We vary pathloss conditions, number of hops and the data rate of video streams. Finally to emulate a real world scenario we simulate an ad hoc network with a tree topology. We perform a theoretical analysis of video carrying capability of an ad hoc network and verify it by simulation. We simulate the wireless ad hoc network a simulator for IEEE 802.11e medium access control written in Java programming language. We conclude that an ad hoc network using the IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed co-ordination function as its medium access control protocol can support up to 23 simultaneous video sessions while streaming a video at 16 kbps, but only supports 5 sessions with streaming a video at 256 kbps. We observe from the analysis of the simulation results that the link capability is primarily affected by video streaming data rate, number o contending nodes and number of hops between the source and the destination nodes.
