Résumé du livre
Ovarian germ cell tumours (GCT) represent 5% of all ovarian cancers. Mostly affecting young women, they are highly malignant but chemosensitive. With accurate diagnosis and treatment, many can be cured. The objective of this study was to study the clinical profile and treatment outcomes of GCT with multimodal therapy. This retrospective study included histologically confirmed GCT treated at TMC from Aug 2011 to May 2018. Data was collected from hospital electronic medical records.A total of 29 patients with GCT were identified with median follow up time of 33 months. Median age was 20.5 years and all had good performance status. 25 patients underwent upfront surgery while 4 received NACT followed by IDS, reasons being poor PS, extensive disease and referral to out centre after receiving chemotherapy. In the primary surgery group 80% had fertility sparing surgery which was 75% in IDS setting. Similarly 80% and 75% patients received BEP chemotherapy in adjuvant and NACT settings respectively. Remaining had EP, VIP or TIP. On follow up, 25 patients were alive without disease, 4 recurrences were seen with one involving the brain. Salvage surgery was attempted in 2 patients whereas 2 received palliative chemotherapy. The estimated 5 year RFS was 84.9% and OS was 87.8%This study concludes that most patients of GCT were at an early stage of disease at presentation with good response to treatment.
