Résumé du livre

Documents the mineral potential evaluation procedure that the Ontario Geological Survey has developed and implemented for participation in land use planning assessments in areas where potentially conflicting land use activities have been or may be proposed. The procedure is also recommended for use by geological consultants performing mineral potential evaluations for municipalities and land use agencies. The procedure involves a subjective ranking of the mineral potential using objective, defined criteria. The region to be assessed is subdivided on the basis of geologic and metallogenic parameters, and the areas are ranked with respect to the occurrence of specific deposit types. The applicable geological, geophysical and/or geochemical, and economic criteria for each deposit type are each subjectively ranked and the ratings are combined in an overlapping circle scheme. Concludes with discussion of how the evaluation methodology can assist with the consideration of provincial interests in the municipal land use planning process under the 1990 Planning Act.
