Résumé du livre
The novel starts off with a young, pregnant French woman stepping off the train car at the Grand Central Station in New York City in the 1950's. Soon after she gives birth to a blond-haired, green-eyed baby girl named Marla duBois. She gives her last breath for her baby. Marla unfortunately, ends up growing up in an abusive situation until she reaches her first days of middle school, where ultimately begins a significant tuning point in her life. Marla meets two teachers that surprisingly change all their lives forever. However, it doesn't take Marla long to fall temporarily back into her adventuresome troublesome behavior. Then a surprise stranger walks into her life, and she soon is set back on the right track again. Later Marla matures into an image of her mom, and experiences emotions she has never had before, and humorously uproars the closest ones around her where she ultimately falls in love having to pick between the two men she cares deeply for.
