Walter Hanson Ivey, son of William Bryan Ivey and Zadie Cooper, was born in 1894 in Johnson County, Georgia. He married Doshie Lord (d. 1918), daughter of Douglas Lord and Julia Albina Poole, and they had two children. He married Doshie's sister, Maud Theresa Lord, in 1919. They had seven children.
