Résumé du livre
The author of the diary is Sayyid Asad ʻAlī Anvarī (1907-1960). The diary spans a period of four months from April 1939 to August 1939. Anvery was born in the village of Faridabad in the province of Punjab, India. He lost both his parents by the time he was eleven and was brought up by a distant female relative who was a childless widow. As the village school only went up to class 8, he was sent to Anglo Arabic School in Dehli as a boarder to matriculate. After earning a BSc degree from Aligarh Muslim University, Anvery sat for, and passed, the highly competitive exam to enter the prestigious Indian Forest Service. It was as an officer of the Indian Forest Service that he was sent to Oxford University to attend a short course. During his stay in Europe he wrote this diary. Anvery also wrote Qateel aur Ghalib (1939) and Saheefa-i-cheen. Both have been microfilmed and digitized by the Early 20th Century Indian Books Project. They are also available on Rekhta.com. The title Before the Storm/Toofan se Pehle was assigned to the diary by the translator of the diary who is also the daughter of the author.
