Résumé du livre
A psychological analysis of the memory of the Holocaust, based on interviews with 22 Polish Jews who survived the war and remained in Poland. Reconstructs, quoting largely from the interviews, everyday life in the ghettos - learning, teaching, social and cultural life - and problems of adaptation, hunger, illness, death, feelings, moods, hopes, and other psychological aspects. Discusses differences in the war experiences of Poles and Jews, interpretations of the Holocaust as seen by the interviewees, and the psychological consequences of the war for their lives. Reflects on the heritage of the Holocaust in a social and cultural sense, especially the lack of awareness in Polish society that it is also a Polish problem.
