Résumé du livre

"The call to overseas mission has always sounded strong among evangelical Christians in Cambridge University. In the mid-1950s that call was taken up by the Cambridge Seventy, a group of students associated with the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian Union, who committed themselves to overseas service in the same way that the Cambridge Seven had seventy years earlier. In this occasional paper, Ian Randall situates the Cambridge Seventy in the context of mid-twentieth century Christian mission, tracing the influences that led to their decision to serve in the world church. He then follows many of the Seventy around the world and into their varied ministries. In time, many returned to the United Kingdom where they found that their overseas experience continued to shape and inform their ministries. The women and men of the Cambridge Seventy represent a moment of transition in Protestant mission thinking, at the end of the colonial period and in the midst of changing understandings of how Christians around the world could best be in service of mission together. Ian Randall's study is an introduction to a remarkable story that has not been told before. It adds depth to the picture of evangelical life in Britain in the 1950s by showing the important part played by the challenge to overseas mission." -- back cover.
