Résumé du livre

The Eight Peaks winter recreation sustainable resource management planning area includes about 44,500 hectares of mountain slopes within about 15 kilometres of Blue River, British Columbia. Frequent heavy snowfalls and high annual snow accumulation make the area attractive for winter recreation. The purpose of this report is to assess the socio-economic implications of the land use scenario outlined in the draft of the Eight Peaks winter recreation sustainable resource management planning chapter. The impacts of the proposed land use scenario are evaluated from the perspectives of economic development, provincial government revenues, community & social implications, and economic efficiency. The development scenario, involving removal of productive forestland for the purpose of developing managed ski runs, is evaluated against the base case (status quo) and focusses on the trade-offs between tourism development versus timber harvesting values in the Eight Peaks area.
