Résumé du livre

The United States Naval Observatory (USNO) and Yale University Observatory have always had many research interests in common and often worked in collaboration. More Yale graduates found employment at USNO than at any other institution, including Yale. Several USNO astronomers upon retirement transferred to Yale in order to collaborate more effectively with Yale astronomers. Finally, from 1947 until Brouwer's death, ONR awarded Yale a contract for collaborative research among Yale, USNO, and the IBM Watson Scientific Computing Laboratory in New York. The Director of the latter, Wallace Eckert, a Yale Ph. D., had previously been the Director of the U.S. Nautical Almanac. Under the ONR contract over twenty important papers were published in the Papers of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac.
