Countess of Barcelona and Marchioness of Septimania, Dhuoda lived in the 9th century in Provence, although she was of Germanic origin. When her husband took her children William and Bernardo from her to take them to war, Dhuoda wrote them a beautiful book to ease her pain and educate them as she wanted. This book, written between the years 841 and 843, has made it famous.
