A brilliant young scientist has been found dead on a U.S. research base in Antarctica. Jack Amirault thinks it's murder, but nobody believes him. Or even trusts him. A year ago he caused the death of his best friend while they rescued Robyn Cassidy, a beautiful environmental activist injured near the base. Amirault was disobeying orders at the time, and suffered a breakdown afterward. Now Robyn Cassidy is back, wanting to finish her trek across Antarctica. A crucial treaty is about to be signed, opening the continent to mining development. And a researcher has been found half eaten by leopard seals in the harbor at 3 A.M. Are these things connected?
