Inelastic Column Behavior

This paper presents the significant findings of a theoretical study of column behavior in the plastic stress range that shows the tangent-modulus load to be the load at which bending can start for a straight column. Load-deflection analyses are made for two column models - one model having a concentrated flexibility and the other having its flexibility distributed along its length. Results are presented which relate the maximum load to the stress-strain curve of the material.
