Résumé du livre

I ENTIFI RS: Freon. T e purpose of this stu y was to design, construct, and ex mine th performance of a heat exchanger in which one fluid boiled another by direc -contact heat transfer. Of t e e changer geo rics studied, the best was found to be one in which the working substance to be boiled, freon-113 in this i sta ce, was spr yed radially from the center of a cylindrical ch mber i o the other orking subst c which was water I T S DISCOVERED THAT WATER-VAPOR CONT MINATION OF THE FREON VAPOR WAS UNAVOIDABLE BUT COULD BE ROUGHLY PREDICTED BY USE OF THE PERFECT G S L . It was also oted that much larg r flo rates of freon coul b v pori d if ll oun of li uid fr on er llo ed to contamina he outlet wat r. A theory was developed, based on the energy balance e uation for the process, and using the inlet and outl t flow rates, temperatures, and contaminations as variable . This eory proved ad qua e to show ord r-of-magnitude relation hips among t e process variables, but it failed to ccount for evaporation of the freon at low wa er inl mperatures an for changes in the effectiveness of the exchanger due to modifica ions i t e geometry of he device.
