This study discusses the perception of Roman Catholics and Muslims in Quiapo, Manila on fasting. It includes discussions in perception, fasting in general, and on the concepts of fasting by both religions.The study employs the descriptive survey method to define the perceptions of Roman Catholics and Muslims on fasting. A total of 70 respondents were included in this research, with 35 Roman Catholic respondents and 35 Muslim respondents residing in Quiapo, Manila and who are at least 18 years of age. These respondents served as the primary data. Survey questionnaires were personally distributed to these respondents last June 30 and July 6, 1998. The two sets of questionnaires employed the Likert Scale method. A statistical analysis with the use of t-test for independent sample means was used in deriving the the results with the help of the Research Assistant Unit (RAU) of the De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde in tabulating the data.The findings revealed that there are differences in the perception of Roman Catholics and Muslims regarding fasting. That the Roman Catholics are less conscientious in their perception of fasting as oppose to the Muslims who are more knowledgeable as to how they perceive fasting. The Roman Catholic’s notion about fasting is a way on how to improve relationship with God. The Muslims however, explained that they consider fasting as a process for physical and spiritual reasons.
