"The Native Hue", a biography written by his son Raphael, describes the cadetship of John A. Cleveland, his dismissal, his experiences engineering the Guayaquil Railroad Construction project in Ecuador and other business ventures. Included are copies of newspaper articles and official documents on the dismissal of Cleveland and four other cadets, charged with conducting a mutinous demonstration against the Superintendent.
