This novel tells the story of Ella Colley, a police detective, who begins to investigate a rape and a murder. Both these incidents are then linked and they lead to a major investigation which are connected to other murders, robberies in London, riots and disturbances around the country with racist tendencies, and an infiltration into the Free Masons. Senior people in the police and other businesses are blackmailed and being forced to pass information to people who are masterminding these incidents. During this investigation one of Ella's officers gets killed, one gets abducted and all her team of officers are put in danger. Three Superintendents go missing and Ella is nearly killed. The Police Station is broken into and a hostage situation occurs where an elderly woman is killed. It is a story of betrayal by people who are in authority and of the determination of a team of officers to apprehend the perpetrators of these crimes.
