Résumé du livre
Sculptor Auke de Vries enjoys international fame, primarily for the elegant and whimsical sculptures in public space he has produced in the Netherlands and much further afield. In 2012 he turns 75 and will have been active as an artist for 50 years. This, along with a planned exhibition, has inspired this first extensive catalogue of his oeuvre. Everyone knows his Maasbeeld in Rotterdam and the striking sculptures at the Hollands Spoor Station in The Hague, in the reflecting pool of the NAi in Rotterdam and on the roof of the DaimlerChrysler Building in Berlin. He has produced other works in such cities as Barcelona, Ludwigsburg, Hannover, Magdeburg, Aberdeen, Johannesburg and Wiesbaden. De Vries began his evolution as a graphic artist and sculptor in the late 1960s. The interconnectedness of art and architecture, along with nature, is the guiding thread in his work. This book provides a thorough presentation of the evolution in De Vries's work, with connections made between its various aspects.
