William Cooke Higginson (1943- ) was born in Rainy River, Ontario to Thomas Boyd and Norma Emmeline Cook Higginson. He descends from early Revolutionary veterans who fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He also descends from Irish emigrants who immigrated to Canada in 1819. Bill Higginson married Mary Margaret Innes (1944- ) who was born in Ontario to Ernest Alexander and Jean Carlyle McCormick. The McCormick and the Innes families originally came from Scotland and became prominent in their new home in Canada.
