Enhanced Electro-optic Response in Total Internal Reflection Based Electric Field Probes

In this thesis, we present a new approach for increasing the electro-optic response of an electro-optic medium using a four prism configuration. In this configuration light is redirected while maintaining a propagation direction along one of the crystal's axes to maximize the electro-optic response of the crystal to an externally applied electric field. In our study we experimentally demonstrated up to a five-fold increase in the electro-optic response experimentally. The proposed configuration is a non-invasive total internal reflection based electric field probe based on the Pockel's effect in electro-optic crystals.
