Résumé du livre
This small book describes the work Gerhard Merz made for the gallery Kunsthalle Giessen. The work consists of four parts: paint (high-gloss, granite grey); light (fluorescent fixtures); a quotation from Goethe's 'Uber den Granit (On Granite)' as a wall text; and a thin booklet containing the artist's concept and the complete text of Goethe's 'On Granite'. The walls of the gallery have been painted granite grey, illuminated by nearly five hundred neon daylight tubes lined up vertically on each side. The work owes its impact to the power and presence of the light, which aims to challenge the viewer's faculty of optical perception, and the monochrome surfaces.
