The earliest known ancestor, Louis Juppin a.k.a. Ludwig Schupping, moved from France to Hassloch, Germany, and became a citizen there in 1658. The immigrant ancestor to America, Johann Nicholas Schupping (1739-1807), can be identified in Pennsylvania in 1767 with wife Catherine Holshouser (b. 1754) when their son, John Jacob Shuping (1767-1857), was christened at New Goshenhoppen Church in Upper Milford Twp., Pa. Family migrated to North Carolina by 1784. Descendants and family members live in North Carolina, Tennessee, Iowa, California, Texas and elsewhere.
