According to the editor's preface in the 1st vol., this work was originally intended to be divided into just 3 overall parts: Theorie et doctrine (pt..I, v.1-3); Description historique (pt.II, v. 1-4); Planches (pt. III, plates I-CCCLV). However, as the publication continued, another section was added, called Monnaies orientales, designated only as "III" and issued with at least 1 vol. of text and 1 set of plates.
