Résumé du livre

All Kinds of Places is a story about Walter O'Brien, a 38-year-old traveler who is summoned home from his self-created Indonesian utopia. Back in his native Washington, DC, his mother takes away his financial support and his life of leisure and freedom abruptly ends. Back home he hangs with his two best friends, John and Sammy, and struggles with the responsibilities he avoided on the road: holding down a job, finding a place to live and pursuing a love interest. Walt drifts back to vivid memories from his travels, and longs for his old life as he attempts to persevere though often his efforts, such as a renewed pursuit of art, are not sustained. He confronts his overwhelming desire to be free when circumstances will not allow for that, and the stark reality of everyday life.
