A translation (with revision) of the Hebrew Hanhaga be-milkud (1986, Am Oved, Tel Aviv), which won the Yad Ben Zvi prize. The guilt- ridden question of whether the Jewish community in Palestine really did everything in its power to rescue Jews in Nazi-occupied countries has been the subject of bitter debate in Israel since the end of WWII.
