Steven Long has been murdered, and the finger of suspicion points to Harry Carpenter, whose wife and child were killed when Long crashed his car. But Inspector Luke Thanet believes there are others with reasons to hate the victim: his former wife, her new lover and Steve's younger brothers. Only his twin, Geoffrey, has a kind word for the deceased troublemaker.
