Résumé du livre

Examines the process of Aryanization and liquidation of Jewish property and enterprises in Hamburg during the Nazi period. In 1938, 1,200 Jewish enterprises still existed in Hamburg; their Aryanization was accelerated as a result of the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. In its final stage, Aryanization in Hamburg resembled a race for enrichment, especially among Nazi functionaries. Between 1941-45, the property of 30,000 Jews from Germany and occupied Western Europe was sold at auction in Hamburg. Discusses the entire process which, from its beginning, was accompanied by violent attacks on Jews and Jewish businesses, organized boycotts, exclusion of Jews from professional associations, prohibition on Jewish physicians and lawyers to work, and dismissal of Jewish employees; in its final stages it led to the complete deprivation of the Jews and then to their annihilation.
