Résumé du livre

This article examines the effects, if any, of the Asian financial crisis and the 'Hanson' factor on the number of international students wishing to study in Australia. The Asian financial crisis does seem to have impacted on foreign student numbers, with ELICOS (English language short courses) visas, in particular, dropping 37% between 1996 and 1997. To compensate, there are some new markets emerging in higher education outside the major Asian players, in the United States and Europe. Student numbers do not seem to be affected by the 'Hanson factor'
