Résumé du livre
Should critical editions of old texts modernize punctuation? It used to be thought that original punctuation was too erratic to be maintained, but the rediscovery of oratorical practices reopened the debate. Were typesetters to be blamed for every peculiarity or did punctuation marks contain indications of a specific declamation? It is only by the detailed examination of a wide corpus of seventeenth-century editions of plays that we can hope to answer this question. French text.
