"The appendices connected with this volume are an important part of the story of California's Mormon Argonauts. They have been removed from the narrative for ease of reading, not because of a lack of importance. They have been physically separated from the book to keep the size of the latter within reason. They should be of especial interest to scholars and descendents of those Mormon California pioneers who, no less than those in Utah, made great contributions to the building of the Western Mormon Commonwealth in the mid-19th Century. The appendices will be grouped using chapter numbers and footnote numbers for easy reference. For example, Appendix 2a (FN 3-4) is the first appendix (a) of Chapter 3 and is referred to by Footnote 4 of that chapter. Sources tie back to the text itself"--Page 1.
