Hugh Brown Brown (1883-1975) served in the First Presidency of the Mormon church from 1961 to 1970 -- one of the most controversial decades of Latter-day Saint history. During these years, and earlier, he came to be known among Mormons worldwide as one of the most broad-minded, compassionate, and tolerant of the church's ranking general authorities. Five years before Brown's death, his grandson Edwin B. Firmage conducted a series of candid, in-depth interviews with him.
