John Kunz was born in Zwischenfluk Diemtigin, Bern canton, Switzerland in 1844 and became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Magdalena Mathilda Stranbhaar, and they immigrated in 1873 to Salt Lake City, Utah. He died in Bern, Idaho.
