Résumé du livre

Two letters concerning the sinking of the Royal Mail ship "Quetta" which was wrecked on the Far North Queensland coast on 28 February 1890 with the loss of 134 lives. The collection comprises two letters written by police officer, Donald Bain. One letter is a report about the shipwreck written to an unknown recipient. Bain travelled on the Papua New Guinea Government Steamer 'Merrie England" to render assistance to the passengers on the 'Quetta'. The second letter is written to George Prentice, Jnr., of Thursday Island, in which he encloses a copy of the letter above and which concerns a reward offered by Prentice for the retrieval of a portmanteau, belonging to his father, George Prentice, senior, who died during the sinking of the 'Quetta'. The portmanteau was lost in the sinking.
