Graham draws on personal experiences in the industry as he describes how film and television actors prepare for roles, especially given a variety of conflicting forces and personalities. He advises that real acting is not about the simulation of life, but rather about creating a reality that the actor can allow his or her character to react within, and that other forces -- such as star treatment, travel, dealing with executives and producers, and drug or alcohol abuse -- are peripheral but important.
