Syria, a developing economy of the Middle East, has recently witnessed recogniza ble and eye-catching impressive economic developments. Throughout the last deca de, almost all economic indicators have been subject to dramatic improvements, a nd new structural policies have paved the way for further economic improvement a nd development. In this Thesis, and after a general introduction, I will highlight in Chapter tw o a historical review of Syrian economic system's evolvement, and a study of nat ural resources. Chapter three will cover structural fiscal and monetary adjustm ents that have recently taken place in Syria since 1990. This part will also as sess the effectiveness of these changes in the long run given all the internal a nd external restrictions. In chapter four, the financial sector will be examine d in details including the effects brought by the intrusion of the private banki ng system into the country. Finally, Chapter five will conclude the thesis with some policy implications.
