English Matters is a programme for the Intermediate and Senior Phases of Curriculum 2005 that enables teachers to implement the Language, Literacy and Communication Learning Area. The programme suits both learners who use English as a language of learning and those who use English as an additional language. There are three books for each grade: an Anthology, a Learner's Book and a Teacher's Guide. The Anthology contains: • stories, poetry, fables, extracts and non-fiction • language which varies from simple to complex • illustrations. The Learner's Book contains: • activities based on the texts in the Anthology • comments from learners The Teacher's Guide contains: • guidance on implementation and learner assessment • responses from teachers who trialled the material • ideas for linking language work with Outcomes in other Learning Areas • information showing how the Outcomes, Assessment Criteria and Performance Indicators for Language, Literacy and Communication are covered.
