These poems were the submissions for Category 1 of the Poetry Society of Indiana's 44th Annual Poetry Contest. The contest had 27 separate categories with varying topics and requirements for style, formatting, and length.

The requirements for Category 1 were:

Line Limit: 40
Sponsor: Poetry Society of Indiana

The judge for Category 1 liked all the entered poems so much he/she sought permission from PSI to compile them into a stand-alone publication. Upon approval, this individual agreed to sponsor the production costs to make that happen.
