Manuscript minutes of the meetings of the Boston Public Library Board of Trustees held between May 31, 1852, and Dec. 15, 1939. Minutes detail the regular business of the board, including, but not limited to general oversight of the library, provisions for planning and capital projects, maintenance of facilities, hiring and dismissal of staff, election of new board members, appropriation of funds, purchase of books, granting of special privileges, and reports of correspondence with interested parties, including donors, patrons, booksellers, contractors, architects, etc. Also records the establishment and amendment of bylaws and other documentation deemed appropriate for entry into the official record.
