In his letters Story comments on his admiration for Longfellow, conveys literary gossip regarding Lowell, Emerson, Parker, Brownson and Ripley, and news of Alexander Everett and Webster under Tyler's administration, defends Sumner's justification of the seizure of Florida, comments on Hatty Hosmer and the freeing of Rome from French troops, agrees to write for the New York Independent, refuses to give F. Marion Crawfod a letter to Lord Lytton but promises to introduce him to Max Müller, sends a photo and questionnaire to Appleton's Cyclopaedia, replies to an irate purchaser, and solicits letters and opinions of his father. There is also a note from Joseph Story and one from Mira Peruzzi regarding his death.
