Oblong leather bound volume bearing two black, leather labels stamped in gold with "J. G. Reynolds" on the cover and "Receipt book" on the spine. The volume spans the years from 1806 to 1833 and comprises the receipts of payments made by James G. Reynolds to various merchants, professionals, grocers, doctors, masons, and builders. Other payments made by Reynolds include taxes and rent. The transactions were made chiefly in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York, where Reynolds most likely lived. Each payment has been recorded, dated, and signed by the recipient. A few receipts of note include rent for Lot No. 81 for Henry Rutgers, signed by W. B. Crosby, dated October 1809 and October 1810; paving the intersection at Rivington Street signed by Morris Camp, dated September 27, 1811; and several receipts for construction work performed at Mr. Lawrence's houses located on 1st Street in 1812. Following the last receipt in the volume, dated 1833, is a list of names written in purple ink with the notation "Reynolds tribe." The names include George W. Reynolds, Lena, Mary, Louise, and James. Approximately one third of the volume has been used; the remainder, except for the last few leaves, is blank. The volume is interleaved with blotting paper and written parallel to the spine in the manner of a notepad.
