The Promise recounts two stories that appear to have nothing in common. The first is set in the eighteenth century, and the second toward the end of the twentieth century.In one of the tales, a couple madly in love is about to get married when tragedy ensues, thus abruptly and brutally putting an end to their love story before the main characters were able to experience it fully.
