Résumé du livre

The Promise recounts two stories that appear to have nothing in common. The first is set in the eighteenth century, and the second toward the end of the twentieth century. In one of the tales, a couple madly in love is about to get married when tragedy ensues, thus abruptly and brutally putting an end to their love story before the main characters were able to experience it fully. They make a promise to find each other again. In the other tale, two young teenagers fall in love at first sight. They have never seen each other before, and yet they seem to know all there is to know about each other. As different as these two stories may be, something ties them together: a promise...This novel was written for those who are hunting for an explanation for the puzzling and disturbing sensation of recognizing a stranger on the street or at the market. It was also written for those who would like to understand why their relationships with others are so often complicated or appear even hopeless.
